Conversations

Start something new, return to an earlier thread, attach what BrightMind needs, and keep text and voice work together.

Start a conversation

The bottom bar holds three tabs: Tasks, Home, and Conversations. Next to it sits the round BrightMind button; tap it to open a new message. Type what you need, dictate it, or attach something, then send. BrightMind creates the conversation when the first message goes through.

A conversation works best when you keep related work together. If you are planning a trip, untangling a project, or working through a backlog, return to that thread instead of starting from zero each time.

Find an earlier conversation

Open the Conversations tab to see your recent threads. The newest activity appears first, with pinned conversations kept together at the top.

  • Tap a conversation to open it.
  • Scroll up inside a long thread to load earlier messages.
  • Pull down on the list to refresh it.
  • Swipe back or tap the back arrow to return to the list.

Items you share into BrightMind, quick captures, and completed voice calls can also lead you straight to the conversation they created. So can messages from your automations: a run's notification opens the conversation it posted to, and you can reply there.

Send text, photos, and files

The message bar can handle more than plain text:

  • Type a message or paste text.
  • Tap the plus button to choose a recent photo, use the camera, or pick a file.
  • Tap the @ button to mention one of your tasks or calendar events, so BrightMind knows exactly which one you mean.
  • Paste an image or file directly when your device supports it.
  • Tap an attached image to preview it before sending.
  • Remove or cancel an upload if you picked the wrong thing.

BrightMind shows your message immediately, then streams the response underneath it. If it needs to use a connected tool, you can follow the tool’s progress in the same thread.

For sending something from another app, see Share anything into BrightMind.

Dictate or switch to a voice call

Tap the microphone to dictate one message. BrightMind transcribes your speech into the message bar, where you can check it before sending. While you’re dictating, tap stop to review the text first, or tap send to stop and send in one go.

Tap the voice-call button when you want a live, hands-free conversation instead. Starting it from an open thread keeps the call tied to that conversation. When the call ends, its messages appear in the same history after they finish saving.

For voice settings and speaking speed, see Voice and speaking speed.

While BrightMind is responding

Text appears as BrightMind writes it. Tool cards show when it is checking a connected service or carrying out an action. You can keep reading while the response grows.

Tap the stop button in the message bar if you no longer need the rest of the response. BrightMind keeps the conversation history that has already been saved.

If you scroll away from the newest message, use the down button to return to the current response. Older messages stay available above it.

Your unfinished message is saved

If you type something and leave the conversation, BrightMind saves that draft for this thread. When you return, the text and completed uploads are restored. The draft is cleared after the message sends.

Drafts are separate for each conversation, so notes from one thread do not appear in another. The new message sheet on Home also has its own input session.

Pin, rename, or delete a conversation

Press and hold a conversation in the list to open its actions:

  • Pin keeps an important thread in the pinned section. Use Unpin to return it to the main list.
  • Rename gives the thread a title you will recognize later.
  • Delete permanently removes the thread and its messages after you confirm.

Developer mode adds a Copy ID action for debugging. Most people will never need it.

Rate a response

The thumbs buttons appear at the end of a BrightMind turn, not under every intermediate message. A thumbs up sends quick positive feedback. A thumbs down lets you add a short explanation before submitting.

After a voice call, a card at the bottom of the conversation asks how the call went. It’s there for your most recent call.

If a conversation gets too long

BrightMind warns you when a thread is close to its context limit. At the limit, start a new conversation so the next response has room to work with. Your unsent text and uploads are kept while you decide what to do.

Usage limits are separate from a single thread’s context limit. If you reach your weekly message allowance, BrightMind shows when more messages arrive and offers the free trial or Plus.

If a conversation will not load

  • Pull down on the Conversations list to refresh it.
  • Check that you are signed into the account that created the thread.
  • Open the thread again. BrightMind may show its saved copy while it reconnects.
  • If a voice call just ended, wait a few seconds for its messages to finish saving.
